Founding and Evolution
Julie Mee Schmidt Architecture and Design (JMS A+D) was founded in 2017, emerging from what was initially planned as a single studio project in Tribeca. Since that first endeavor, the firm has grown into a full-service practice, with a portfolio ranging from a complete coffee shop build-out in Brooklyn to high-end bathroom renovations across New England.
At the core of JMS A+Dās work is a focus on a cohesive blend of scale, material, and function. While our architectural style is adaptable to client preferences, it is fundamentally guided by hygge, the Danish principle of coziness. Julie Mee Schmidt is known for deeply understanding each client's unique style and objectives, ensuring every project authentically incorporates their personality.
Experience and Expertise
Prior to founding JMS A+D, Julie gained over five years of invaluable experience at Bromley Caldari Architects. Working under the mentorship of founding partners R. Scott Bromley (the architect of Studio 54) and Jerry Caldari, she managed a diverse range of projects, including high-end single-residence apartments, Fire Island Pines beach houses, and multi-unit residential building renovations. Julie also specialized in complex real estate matters, including tax lot floor plans and various filing processes.
Julie holds a Master of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and a Bachelor of Arts from Bowdoin College in Visual Art and Environmental Studies. Her approach to design was significantly influenced by her time studying architecture in Copenhagen, where she immersed herself in the concepts of hygge. Julie is a Registered Architect in New York State and has completed work across New England.
